Deep Draw the process of forming sheet metal under compressive and tensile conditions into a cavity, producing a seamless multi-dimensional part. The method is referred to as “deep drawing” when the depth of the drawn part exceeds its diameter. This type of forming is ideal for creating components that need several series of diameters and is a cost-effective alternative to turning processes, which typically require using up more raw materials.
Reverse/Re Draw– A first draw reduction, generally limited to less than 50 percent of the flat blank diameter, often is referred to as the first draw or cup draw. When the required product diameter is smaller than that achievable in a single draw operation, redrawing operations reduce the cup diameter and lengthen the wall. Multiple operations reduce the shell diameter and lengthen the wall further. Two basic redrawing methods exist: direct redrawing and reverse redrawing. Direct redrawing reduces the cup diameter by redrawing in the same direction as the first draw. In reverse redrawing, the cup inverts inside out in order to reduce its diameter.
Progressive Metal Stamping- a method whereby coil or strip stock raw material is fed between an upper and lower die with multiple stations. With each stroke of the press, the material advances through the die – each successive operations forms one or more features of the part. A progressive stamping die may have anywhere between 2 and 20 or more stations to form a complete part. Depending on the size and tonnage of the mechanical press and size of the part, the die may be able to produce anywhere between 600 and 2,000 stamped parts per hour. Progressive stampings are typically the most economical type of stamping.
Custom Metal Stamping Metal stamping is used to convert flat metal sheets into specific shapes. It is a complex process that can include a number of metal-forming techniques — blanking, punching, bending and piercing, to name a few. UTM has the “know-how’ and “time-proven” results that ensures all the parts we produce meet exact specifications.
